Kos Island

Some of the Dodecanese Islands have a unique charme, and without any doubt, Kos is one of them. With its 283 qkm, the island is located only 2,5 sea miles away from the turkish coast.

Kos is the third lagest of the Dodecanese Islands and known as the island of Hippocrates. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, known for the Hippocratic oath that is still sworn today, lived on Kos island 2400 years ago. Remainders of his time are still found in Kos today; on one hand, there is a tree under which he taught, as well as the Ascleipeion - an ancient health centre with great view on the island's North and the coast-line to Asia Minor.

Further remainder of ancient times can be found all over the island. But also the more recent history is present: Kos has accepted its Turkish influences of the past - to be seen when looking at the mosques in Kos-town and in Platani.

At the same time, Kos is the ideal island for people that seek relaxation. Many long sandy beaches are to be found on Kos, which is rather unusual on many Greek islands. In addition, Kos has fantastic weather conditions nerly all year round. As there is mostly a soft breeze or wind, it is also one of the best surf- and sailing destinations of the Mediterranean.
